Recycle
Metal is 100% recyclable.
This means all of HW Taroni’s work is helping the planet. And it always has.
We’re deeply committed to preserving the environment and have a record that’s second to none in our industry.
Did you know using recycling steel reduces CO2 emissions by more than half ?
Further down this page you can read some of the phenomenal figures we’ve achieved in recycling aluminium and other metals but please be assured you are in very conscientious hands when dealing with us.

We recycle absolutely everything we possibly can, from copper recycling, to stainless steel recycling to battery recycling and fluids to spare parts. Anything that comes into the Taroni yard is ripe for recycling.
When we’ve broken it down it then all goes back into the world’s circular economy and thereby slows the exhaustion of the world’s natural resources.
Taroni is also vehemently against pollution and contamination so, when we poured thousands of tonnes of concrete for our new Aston site, we could have simply used the least expensive available.

But instead we paid many thousands of extra pounds to use state-of-the-art aggregate that is
completely impenetrable and will never, ever allow poisonous fluids or degenerating matter to leak through and contaminate the soil below.
Being eco friendly and looking after the animal of the planet means the world to us and our commitment will never waver.
We’re A Lean, Green Recycling Machine

OKAY, we might not look like your typical crusading environmentalist (No dungarees, no kale and nope, we don’t hug trees) but we’ve had a genuine dedication to scrap metal recycling and the environment for decades now and remain as committed as ever.
As far as we’re concerned, responsibility for how we treat the planet begins at home and so we’ve always looked at how we can make the environmental difference and then done our best to achieve just that.
If something can be salvaged and reused elsewhere we put it through our system. And that’s precisely what we’ve been doing now through eight decades.
The scrap metals we’ve redistributed back into the commercial world during HW Taroni’s history weigh the equivalent of almost 3.5 million cars… Please just digest that for a moment. That’s from our little yard in the middle of Birmingham- three point five million vehicles.

Laid end to end those cars would stretch halfway around the planet.
If we didn’t recycle and put those metals back into the world’s commercial system then that metal would need to be mined- a process that costs up to eight times as much and has as much as TWENTY TIMES harsher environmental impact than our recycled metal does.
All that metal is equivalent to 479 Eiffel Towers. Actually 479.5 but who’s counting ?
Or 66 copies of The Titanic. The ship, that is, not the movie. Yes, sixty Six ! Clickety Click.
According to the British Metal Recycling Association*, every tonne of recycled STEEL saves:
- 5 tonnes of iron ore
- 5 tonnes of coal
- 70% of the energy
- 40% of the water
- 75% of CO2 emissions
- 97 tonnes of CO2

- And recycling ALUMINIUM uses 95% less energy than producing aluminium from mined bauxite. Recycling one tonne saves 14,000 kWh of energy – enough to meet the energy needs of an average UK
- A single tonne of recycled TIN saves a whopping 99% of the energy required for the primary production of tin.
- Nearly 40% of the world’s demand for COPPER is met using recycled material. By recycling copper instead of extracting it from mined copper ore we reduce CO2 emissions by 65%. And because of companies like ours an extraordinary 60% of tin produced since the 1900s is still in use.
- In 2018, 157 million tonnes of CO2 were saved in the EU by recycling 94 million tonnes of scrap, an equivalent amount to all automobiles circulating in France, Great Britain and Belgium.
- Using recycled steel to make new steel reduces air pollution by 86%, water use by 40%, and water pollution by 76%.
We could go on forever but we know you understand where we’re coming from and where our hearts are with recycling. They don’t call us Birmingham’s recycling champion for nothing, you know.

If you have any questions please just ask and we’ll be delighted to explain our processes. Better yet, just come along to our new scrap yard in Aston and we’ll show you.
